I know my blogging has been pretty lack lustre at the moment, but I promise I will be an exciting and interesting blogger after I've finished my exams!! I will-

Anyway, I have purchased some very pretty things in the last few weeks, and I thought I should document them. 

I purchased a typewriter , a  cat purse for £3 from a fancy dress shop, Grimes - vision ( which is the most perfect album ) and oh comely

the best purchase of all time (i'm not exaggerating) has to be this mini typewriter I got for £3 in a charity shop, not only is adorably pocket-sized the colour matches my room perfectly. 

yesterday me and Sinead went into town, to look in party shops, for a joint party we are having in the summer, I decided to treat myself to Oh comely, The latest issue is especially beautiful, with lovely whimsical illustrations and photographs -

A few weeks ago I purchased this skirt from Topshop, Its got to be one of favourite items of clothing. It has a really cool shape, and the fluorescent flowers are just so cool.

I am currently in a Lana Del Rey fangirl appreciation week,Because well....Lana is flawless and completely flawed and beautiful and weird and ahh, I just love her. Anyway, my fangirling went up a notch when I watched her video for a cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Chelsea Hotel No2' as I am a fan of Leonard this combination excites me. The video is kind of simple, but Lana does a really beautiful job with the song, so take a look... 

another reason for loving Lana in this video, is her flawless eye makeup, I actually dream of achieving this kind of eyeliner perfection,gah..

 For a while I have wanted to look mysterious and edgy but I have now realised that I just don't look mysterious or edgy. So I have decided to find a different style. I think a mash up of 60's, clueless and preppy style will do the trick.

a crack on the head is what you get for asking.

First of all, I know my blogging skills are sporadically awful and ajfghftr there are just words that I can't express because ill and confused. My new year's resolution is to just listen to and make music aaaall the live long day forever and have lilac hair and be ALONE apart from cats and a select few fun gals (ie Sophie).

Another reason for my bad blogging is that I cannot abide using photobucket. It frustrates me immensely and I dislike it with a childish intensity. So, here are some things that are in my possession as of late..

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures, The Smiths - Meat Is Murder, Lana Del Rey - Born To Die Paradise Edition

Needless to say when I received the Lana cd I was a mess of girl-crush giggles and anticipation, I hadn't heard some of the Paradise stuff. My favourite song on it at the moment is American, its very beautiful despite being weirdly patriotic. Cola is also an instant classic, kudos Lana "don't treat me rough, treat me really niceys". I got the other two cds with a HMV voucher I got for Christmas. When I'm well enough I shall do an outfit post showing you lovely people some new clothes I have too - tartan jeans and a Bowie tshirt for the WIN.

Patrick Wolf - Archive EP 1

Oh, there were tears. I may be silly, but it is signed by him so my tears are legit (IT REALLY IS, OK). And he drew little birds and stars and 'wrote made with love in London by Patrick Wolf' ohhh. So many things I love in one thing. And the cd itself is a demo-and-rare-stuff delight. THERE'S A DEMO FROM 1999 AND AND I'll stop now.

This BEAUTIFUL ruffly, floral and everything-good blouse came in the post from Texas from my fairy Godmother. It is Free People and it is magnificent. It has puffy sleeves and a cinched waist and I plan to wear it with my white 50s circle skirt as soon as the weather allows it. Oh, and with these too...

EEP AREN'T THEY SO PRETTY?! A gift from my mum. They are vintagey-crochety-wonderfulness.

I made a crochet headband, yay for that! I'm thinking of making many and putting them on etsy, what d'you reckon?

This blog has prompted me to draw, paint, collage a lot more and create the kind of art I want to create.

I hope this blog has brought me and Sinead together as friends, but who knows? ( rhetorical question )

Lana Del Rey

Oh she's beautiful and I love her so so much even though her lyrics are not always the most feminist-friendly. But that voice, seriously, I can't even resist it. It's just so sultry and perfect. My current favourites (current meaning today, because honestly my favourites change every day when it comes to Lana) are Yayo and Kill Kill. I also saw an interview with her today. She was so adorable on it. I never even realised how gently and sweetly she talks considering some of the things she says in her songs. And I really liked how she was talking about the fact that not everything she uses in her videos is used for symbolic meaning - things often just appeal to her visually. And I totally get that - when I paint, I'm not always choosing my colour scheme because it's meant to tell people something about the painting. I choose certain colours because I think they are beautiful and pleasing to look at. And when authors write, not all of the descriptions they use are significant to the story. Building up beautiful imagery is important too.

Hey y'all. 

I sang a song for Holly's birthday. Inspired by Patrick Wolf's cover of this song. I love love love both his version and Lana's, it's a beauuutiful song (not sure I did it justice). I know I know I knowwww it's a bit depressing for a birthday song, but she likes it, so *sticks tongue out*. Today Sophie and I took pretty pictures in the woods and I wore my vintage nightie.

Songs for Sleep.

Lucky Ones - Lana Del Rey

It's Hard to Get Around the Wind - Alex Turner

Above are the two best songs (in my opinion) for getting to sleep from the two artists I am newly obsessed with. 

Lana's album has a mix, really, of upbeat songs and slower ballads, but they all have a certain tragic, romantic quality that makes me positively drunk with emotion whenever I hear it. Million Dollar Man has that really classic, super-romantic croon that Lana does so well, and the chorus of Lucky Ones I think just sounds like a lullaby. I think it's a really sweet song.

And Alex Turner's soundtrack for Submarine is so perfect for both the film and the book that I can scarcely believe it; I'm not usually a huge fan of soundtracks on their own, I usually focus more on the film (and also, sometimes when a soundtrack is not that good, it just ruins the atmosphere of the film for me), but with this particular one it just matches so perfectly with the film. I don't know if I noticed as much before I listened to the soundtrack on its own, but now that I have, I think that no other music would have been as well-suited to the film as Alex Turner's is.

Things that have happened.

Yesterday I had a day out with our dear friend Holly, who will hopefully be writing a few pieces for our blog soon.

My outfit consisted of my yellow shirt, a grey patterned pullover from a vintage stall at Llama festival, my red shorts and Doc Marten shoes.

Patrick Wolf, my current hair-spiration, and a better look at my new hair. Ta daa!

I made a Frida Kahlo/Lana Del Rey-style headdress thing with fake flowers. ~

I also spent AGES gluing individual pink beads and random tacky pink things onto an alice band. It's my kitsch little Crown Of Pinkness. 

Today I haven't really done anything noteworthy. Except some maths. Which I am proud of, because I HATE and am AWFUL at maths. Oh and I made a video of another one of my songs, but I can't upload it yet because the camera ran out of battery and I need to charge it. Not that you care, probably... I'll shut up now. Just thought seeing as I'm temporarily in charge of this blog, I should keep it full of new stuff.

Albums I listened to today

Here, take a look at some of my watercolours.

I've got really into doing watercolours recently. I never really liked to use them before, because I found doing  tone difficult with them. But after lots of practice I think I've got the hang of them, huzzah!

 Mimi probably trying to drink my painty water, the fiendish thing.

 First of all, I am not a satanist, I just like the shape. Here's a portrait of the beautiful Lana Del Rey. Took me a while to do the hair, but I think it worked out quite well. ^^

Stencil-effect used on the flowers by dabbing them while they're still wet, and making sure I left gaps between the petals.

Veins painted on whilst skin colour was still damp so the blue bled into the skin background.
